Screen printing on enamel: craftsmanship at its best

At first glance, an enamel sign seems simple: a clear text, an even area of color, maybe a logo added. But behind that seemingly simple result is a process that is done entirely by hand - and requires much more time and craftsmanship than you might think.

The importance of good digital preparation

Everything starts with a quality digital file. Each design is carefully prepared: texts, lines and logos are worked out and color separations are neatly dissected. We print a separate film for each color, which is later used to expose the screen.

One color per layer

For each color, we make a separate sieve (a kind of stencil on a fine mesh). With that sieve, we manually apply the enamel color to the plate with a squeegee. Then the layer has to dry first. Sometimes the next color follows immediately, sometimes an intermediate firing at ± 800°C is needed to fix the layer. The more complex the design, the more layers, drying cycles and kiln sessions are required.

Moreover, our enamel colors are developed entirely in-house in our color room. So we always have the right shades and high quality under our own control.

Time-consuming, but sustainable and unique

Our screen printers finish each sign completely by hand. Every detail counts. That craftsmanship ensures not only a unique and characterful result, but also a durable enamel sign that retains its beauty for years to come.

This immediately explains why enamel signs have a higher price tag than printed aluminum or plastic: not only the materials, but especially the manual labor and authentic craftsmanship make the difference.
