Created by Jean Graton and published by Dupuis, Michel Vaillant has become one of the most influential motorsport comic series ever created since the 1950s. More than just a comic book character, Vaillant represents speed, precision, and craftsmanship. The bold lines and vibrant colors of the artwork are brought to life beautifully in enamel.
The artwork, "Victory at the Nürburgring," is based on an iconic moment in the history of Michel Vaillant and first appeared in Le Journal Tintin in 1958. A year later, in 1959, it was included in the very first album edition of Le Grand Défi, one of the most beloved classics in the Michel Vaillant universe.
The scene takes place during the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, the decisive race in “The Great Challenge” between the French and the Americans. In the final lap, Michel Vaillant sees his rival Steve Warson crash heavily in the notorious Karussell corner. Michel wins the race, but doesn’t pause for even a second at the finish line: he immediately rushes to his injured rival to help him.
