This isn't the first time we've collaborated with Nkanga. Her work explores, among other things, the relationship between people, nature, materials, and our environment.
In a hospital setting, these themes take on special significance. The colorful columns bring art, imagination, and a sense of connection to an environment entirely dedicated to care and recovery. They invite visitors to slow down, look around, and pause for a moment—a moment of grounding within the hospital environment.
The project was also a wonderful challenge for our studio. In addition to enameled steel, the columns also incorporated unique stones and marble. This brought together various materials and techniques in a single work of art.
At Emaillerie Belge, we enjoy working with artists to explore the limits of what is possible. We start with their artistic vision and then seek out the right techniques, materials, and solutions to bring those ideas to life.
