Poultry Yards & Metres by Kasper Bosmans

Enamel artwork by artist Kasper Bosmans for the Dutch Senate in The Hague. The work can be seen on the exterior facade above the entrance to the building.

Description

Kasper Bosmans named the facade artwork "Poultry yards and meters. The title refers to counting and gathering eggs of poultry. The artist derived the theme from a painting by Dutch seventeenth-century painter Melchior d'Hondecoeter that hung in the Upper House building at the Binnenhof. Using the scale at the bottom of the facade work, the depicted eggs can be measured. According to Bosmans, the ruler refers to the Senate's task of testing the feasibility of new laws and regulations for legality, enforceability and enforceability.
